secure electrum server, secure electrum server

Users of Bitcoin wallet Electrum are currently facing a phishing attack, according to the Devi Security Lab. Hackers broadcast messages to electrum clients through a malicious server, prompting the user to update to v4.0.0, and if the user follows the prompt to install the backdoor-carrying client, the private key is stolen and all digital assets are stolen. At the time of writing, at least 1,450 BTCs worth approximately $11.6 million had been stolen from phishing attacks that forged Electrum upgrade alerts. Devi Security Labs hereby suggests that versions of Electrum below 3.3.4 are vulnerable to such phishing attacks, and users using Electrum Wallet are requested to update to the latest version of Electrum3.3.8 via the official website (electrum.org), which has not yet been officially released v4.0.0, and do not use the link in the prompt message to avoid asset losses.

Electrum's ElectrumX performs better than a personal Electrum server and includes a P2P exploration protocol that enables the wallet app of the average user to automatically find and connect to the server. These features make it a great solution for setting up public Electrum servers.

Hacker attackers have even deployed their own servers that integrate the "backdoor" version of electrum clients. Once the user successfully syncs with a malicious server (hundreds of which have been detected so far), it is upgraded to a backdoor.

Electrum Bitcoin Wallet is a reliable service that has been around since 2011. It is called a "thin" cold wallet, where the entire blockchain is not downloaded to the user's device but stored on a network server. In this case, the private key is stored encrypted on the user's computer and is never sent to the server.

Send the coin to another wallet for long-term bitcoin storage. There should be a full node behind the wallet, such as the Electrum node pointing to your own Electrum server.

In this demo, Electrum developer Chris Belcher shows how to set up and use an Electrum personal server.

Attackers reportedly implemented a compromised version of their Own Electrum server hosting to enable hacking. When users synchronize their vulnerable Electrum wallet with a malicious server, they are instructed to "update" their clients with a hacker version, which can eventually result in the immediate loss of funds contained in older versions.

In a recent announcement on Twitter, Electrum advised users to disable the automatic connection option and manually select a server, while the company is developing a more powerful Electrum.

Electrum Technologies runs a central server to facilitate these exchanges for a fee. This allows users to purchase incoming capacity to receive lightning payments. The developer added.

Although I don't think the HWI project is as friendly as Electrum Personal Server at the moment, it should reduce the number of independent software components required.

Electrum Wallet is one of the most popular Bitcoin wallets and has been around for several years. However, Electrum wallet users often rely on Electrum servers, which presents some security and privacy trade-offs. If you use electrum personal servers, Electrum wallet users can connect locally to their own private servers, enjoying the convenience of Electrum without any trade-offs.
